Genotoxicity tests are indispensable for evaluating the toxic effects of new substances on humans and the environment, especially for assessing cancer risks.

The FADU Assay (Fluorimetric Analysis of Alkaline DNA Unwinding)

The number of DNA strand breaks in short time intervals (e.g. 10, 20, 30 min) after treatment with potentially genotoxic test substances can be quantified with the FADU Assay. In the same time window, the DNA repair capacity can likewise be measured in order to maximize the precision of the genotoxicity tests.

FADU has already been employed in several studies on humans:

  • DNA repair capacities in PBMC of patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); 
  • Effects of ageing and cognitive performance deficits on DNA repair capacity; 
  • Quantification of the DNA repair capacity in PBMC of 3,700 study subjects from seven European countries. 

The LORD-Q Assay (Long-run Real-time PCR-based DNA Damage Quantification)

The LORD-Q Assay enables the sequence-specific quantification of specified DNA lesions not only in abundant mitochondrial genomes, but also at defined chromosomal loci.  

  • Identification of DNA damage hot spots
  • Mitochondrial DNA damage
  • Characterization of genotoxic susceptibility of distinct cell types
